Breakfast at 12 Participates in St. Baldrick’s Head Shaving Event
On September 11th, our head cook, Mark Hayden, will be shaving his head for The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-powered charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long, healthy lives.
“Cancer is a disease that has touched my life,” Mark said. “My mother and grandmother died of it and I’ve lost a few friends to it–it’s nasty fucking disease.”
Mark’s friends, John and Kay Curry, have a 15-year-old daughter, Lilli, who has been battling Ewing Sarcoma, a form of cancer, for four years. Lilli has been using old chemotherapy drugs that were developed 20+ years ago because, unfortunately, childhood cancer research is woefully underfunded.
“Having three daughters of my own, their battle is something I simply cannot imagine. So, that’s why I’m not only shaving, I’m donating too—because childhood cancer research receives only four percent of the federal funds allocated for cancer research.” Mark added.
Mark is encouraging everyone to donate for the event through his my personal St Baldrick’s page: https://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/mypage/804116/2015 .
From this page, friends and family can make a tax-deductible donation to support Mark’s efforts to “brave the shave.” Even the most modest contribution would be greatly appreciated. If your company has “ matching charitable funds” program, this would be great place to contribute and automatically double your tax-deductible contribution.
We’re all inundated with requests for time and money. Many of us have certain causes to which we really focus our charitable giving resources, so whatever support you give give to this worthy cause would be greatly appreciated.
